Politics is a dirty business, but a necessary one. We all have needs that only government can supply. That reality dictates that we pragmatically deal with unsavory political actors to do what’s best for all of the people. It sometimes means that we do things that we ordinarily wouldn’t do in order to place our concerns on the table. It means that we stop daydreaming and grow up, suck it up, and do whatever is necessary to preserve that which we hold dear.
The time has come in the Deep South for Democrats, African Americans in particular, to abandon the Democratic Party on the state and local level as a vehicle for the aspirations of our people. We understand this intuitively, but cannot bring ourselves to utter the words or go through with changing affiliations. It’s time, been time, as we say in the vernacular.
