Ok, so we've heard a lot about the attempted joke Dr. Richard Carmona (D) made at the second Senate debate between himself and Tea Party Congressman Jeff Flake (R).  It was a joke that Carmona tried to make to break the ice but it came off wrong.  Dr. Carmona has apologized about making the joke but that's not stopping Flake from trying to paint Dr. Carmona as the short-tempered man who can work with women.  The Flake campaign released this awful ad just recently:

And of course, Flake is trying to tie Carmona to Obama in this ad.  Now all these allegations made by Flake in his ad are absolutely false.  I will reiterate this again with this diary I posted a little while ago:

http://www.dailykos.com/...

I'm going to repeat these facts that I stated in my past diary so any of you from Arizona in this great community are out campaigning for Carmona, here are your talking points to help bring over undecided voters to Dr. Carmona's side:

THE TRUTH:

These allegations are 100% false and 100% uncorroborated. These allegations were never made or reported to anyone until after Rich blew the whistle on the Bush Administration’s attempts to politicize science when he was Surgeon General. In fact, throughout his Rich’s term, members of Congressman Flake’s party tried to recruit Rich to run for office as a Republican.

What Congressman Flake does not tell you is that throughout Rich’s term as Surgeon General, local and national Republican Party leaders – including Governor Brewer and Sen. Jon Kyl – tried to recruit Rich to run for Congress and for Governor, offering only praise and professing no concern over any so-called temperament issues.
What Congressman Flake does not tell you is that these allegations were never made or reported until after Dr. Carmona testified to Congress about the politicization of science by Bush Administration officials in the office of the Surgeon General – which was over a year after he left Washington.

What Congressman Flake does not tell you is the House Oversight and Investigations committee questioned Dr. Beato’s credibility. While accusing Rich of “not being a team player” while he was Surgeon General, she contradicted herself multiple times in testimony given to congressional investigators and provided absolutely no evidence to back up her claims.

THE FACTS [Sourced]:
Republicans Praised, Recruited Carmona to Run for Office. Then-Secretary of State Jan Brewer was among a "small contingent of Republican leaders" who urged Carmona “consider stepping down early and run as a Republican for Congress." Sen. Jon Kyl also confirmed supporting Carmona, urging him to run for Governor, until Carmona “criticized” and later blew the whistle on the Bush Administration. [AP, 9/10/12]

HHS Officials: “Beato Was Widely Seen Within The Department As Trying To Advance Conservative Agendas.” In the aftermath of Carmona’s testimony to House Oversight, the New York Times interviewed “more than a half-dozen former top health officials.” The Times reported that, “Dr. Beato was widely seen within the department as trying to advance conservative agendas,” according to the statements of officials they interviewed. [NY Times, 7/12/07]

Beato Colleague: Beato Has An “Authoritarian” Decision-Making Style That Caused Friction. The Albuquerque Journal reported that some hospital officials criticized Dr. Beato: “I think she’s very polarizing,” Dr. David Bennahum an emeritus UNM physician who chaired UNM’s ethics committee from 1989 to 1996. “She holds strong conservative views in health care, and that can be divisive in a university.” [Albuquerque Journal, 8/21/12]

Credibility Questioned by Committee Investigators. Rep. Henry Waxman, who oversaw the congressional investigation into HHS, said his committee was aware of Beato’s allegations but could not confirm them. “We interviewed other individuals who knew both of them and reviewed additional information and serious questions were raised about her credibility,” Waxman said in a statement. [Politico, 5/21/12]

No Complaint Ever Filed, No Corroborating Evidence Ever Produced. According to Politico sources, at the time of the investigation, Beato “did not file a police report or formal complaint against [Carmona], and there was no independent way to corroborate” anything she claimed. [Politico, 5/21/12] - Rim County Gazette, 10/16/12

Lets not forget the Dr. Carmona has received the endorsement of Barry Goldwater's daughter and granddaughter for his strong stance on women's health issues.  Dr. Carmona's joke may have been poorly timed but the fact of the matter is Dr. Carmona is the real one who stands for women's rights and health.  It's Flake who has the problem with women.  The NARAL has given him a 10% rating, indicating a very heavy pro-life voting record:

http://www.prochoiceamerica.org/...

Rep. Flake is anti-choice.

Rep. Flake earned a 10-percent score in NARAL Pro-Choice America's 2011 Congressional Record on Choice.

Voted twice to block Planned Parenthood from receiving any federal funds, which would have denied millions of Americans access to contraception, cancer screenings, and other basic medical care.

Voted for H.R.3, a bill that would ban abortion coverage in state health-insurance exchanges; impose tax penalties on small businesses and many individuals who purchase private health plans that include abortion coverage; and make permanent several restrictions that block many women from accessing abortion care.

Voted to allow hospitals to refuse to provide emergency abortion care to women who could die without it.

Rep. Flake received a 100-percent rating from the National Right to Life Committee in 2011. - NARAL

The DSCC has labeled him as the "Todd Akin of the desert" and it not just because Flake and Akin are militantly pro-life.  They have a lot more in common than you think.  Here's a list of facts, courtesy of the DSCC, about Flake that proves he's in line with crazy person Todd Akin (R. MO):

Jeff Flake Joined Todd Akin In Blocking A Crackdown On Child Sex Offenders, Funding To Find Abducted Kids

Flake Was One Of 14 Members, Including Akin, To Oppose Reauthorization Of Programs To Help Find Abducted Kids, Fund National Center For Missing & Exploited Youth. In May 2003, Flake was one of 14 members, including Missouri Rep. Todd Akin, to vote against HR 1925. Reported Congressional Quarterly, “Lawmakers voted 404-14 for a measure (HR 1925) that would reauthorize the Runaway and Homeless Act (PL 106-71), which allocates funding for programs that provide food, shelter, clothing and education to homeless and runaway youths, including young mothers. . . . The bill would authorize $105 million for the homeless and runaway programs in fiscal 2004, an increase of 19 percent over fiscal 2003. . . . The legislation also would reauthorize the Missing Children's Assistance Act (PL 98-473). That law supports police and emergency personnel efforts to find and recover missing and exploited children through a national 24-hour hotline as well as training and technical assistance to law enforcement officers. The bill would increase the authorization level of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children from $10 million to $20 million for fiscal years 2004 through 2008.” [HR 1925, Vote 197, 5/20/03; Congressional Quarterly, 5/23/03]

Flake And Akin Were Among Just 52 Members Who Opposed Stringent Monitoring Requirements, Mandatory Penalties For Child Sex Offenders. In September 2005, Flake was one of 52 to vote against HR 3132. The House voted 371-52 on Wednesday in favor of the Children's Safety Act. It would create a national Web site for child sex offenders and require that sex felons face up to 20 years in prison for failing to comply with registration requirements. . . . The sex offender bill also requires felony offenders to register for life and authorizes the death penalty for sex crimes that result in the killing of a child. The measure responds to what the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. James Sensenbrenner, said was a ‘national crisis’ in child sex offenses. He said that of some 550,000 convicted sex offenders in the U.S., the whereabouts of 100,000 are unknown.” [HR 3132, Vote 470, 9/14/05; Associated Press, 9/14/05]

The bill aims to improve the integrity of child nutrition programs and ensure more effective and efficient use of federal resources targeted to providing nutritional services for vulnerable children. H.R. 3873 was approved unanimously by the Education & the Workforce Committee on March 10, and has received broad bipartisan support. ‘This legislation will extend the life of programs that help to provide nutritional services to America's most vulnerable children, while making some common-sense reforms,’ said Education & the Workforce Committee Chairman John Boehner (R-OH). ‘It places a special emphasis on ensuring children are encouraged to make healthy choices through these taxpayer-funded programs, and on strengthening program integrity to ensure fewer funds are diverted away from the needy children these programs are meant to serve.’… The bill includes steps to improve access for vulnerable children, including: ensuring children whose parents are in the Armed Forces and living in privatized military housing continue receiving free or reduced-price meals at school if they meet eligibility requirements; helping parents by allowing them to submit a single application for multiple children; and reducing paperwork by allowing school lunch certifications to be valid for one full year, preventing situations in which schools are forced to repeatedly certify children within a single school year.” [Boehner Press Release, 3/24/04]

The vote, on May 18, was 377 yeas to 10 nays.” [H.Res. 442, Vote 269, 5/18/09; Tulsa World, 5/22/09]

So yeah, Flake is Arizona's Akin.  He's a dick to kids and weak on cracking child molesters.  Dr. Carmona also reminded us that Flake's a dick when it comes to veterans as well:

Also, did you know that Flake used to be a lobbyist for an African uranium mine with ties to Iran and supports uranium mining near the Grand Canyon?  If you didn't you can read about it here:

http://thinkprogress.org/...

Here's Flake advocating uranium mining near the Grand Canyon:

And here's the League Of Conservation Voters ad highlighting Flake's past lobbyist ties and anti-environmental views:

In January, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar imposed a 20-year moratorium on future uranium and other hard rock mining on 1 million acres of federal land near the iconic national park.  Dr. Carmona is opposed to uranium mining near the Grand Canyon because of the devastating effects it could have on the drinking water.

If that's not enough to convince you that Flake is a Tea Party nut, Markos reminds us that Flake believe apartheid is in line with American values:

http://www.dailykos.com/...

Now here's the video of him actually saying that:

So are you now convinced that Flake is an extremist?  He's in the same clown car as Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock.  Dr. Carmona is a real public servant.  He's served this country in battle, he served in Arizona as a doctor and in the Sheriff's department and he will be a great public servant in the Senate.  Dr. Richard Carmona is the true champion of women's health and rights.  Carmona has even chose to conclude this race with a  strong positive message:

The DSCC is serious about this race as well as the League Of Conservation and AFSCME.  Lets help Dr. Carmona win this race and prevent the Todd Akin of the desert from becoming a Senator:
