You know the race is close when the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) is pouring money in the Arizona Senate race:

The Democratic Senatorial Congressional Committee has placed its first ad buy in Arizona where Democrat Richard Carmona is running a close race against GOP Rep. Jeff Flake for the state's open Senate seat. This is great news that the DSCC is taking this race seriously and with Dr. Richard Carmona (D), who has been endorsed for Barry Goldwater's daughter and granddaughter, we not only keep the Senate in Democrats' control, we also increase our numbers. If we win this race as well as Massachusetts, Indiana, North Dakota, Montana, Missouri, Nevada, Wisconsin, Connecticut and Virginia we will have 53 Democrats and two independents. That gives us a total of 57 seats. Angus King (I) is a sure winner in Maine and given his left leaning views and endorsement of President Obama's re-election, I have zero doubts that he will caucus with the Democrats. I know that's a lot of seats to win but the most recent polls have been showing great numbers for our side. Now we have only a little over a month left to go and the races could tighten and anything could happen but the momentum is with us and with a terrific and inspiring convention firing up the base and an excited grassroots movement fueling Democrats' fundraising and GOTV campaigns, it's looking like we will be winning all those races. We won eight Senate seats back in 2008 and we can repeat that momentum by winning all these seats. Plus we have to because we will have more seats to defend in 2014 and with the possibility of Senator Jay Rockefellar (D. WV) retiring and very few pick up opportunities, we are going to need to get ready to fight back the GOP harder than ever. We won't get a 60 seat majority this year but we can in 2016 if we can at least keep the Senate in our control until then. The DSCC's independent expenditure arm placed a $526,000 ad buy that will run a week from Oct. 2 - 8, according to a Democratic source who tracks ad buys.
Traditionally a red state, the Senate race has been competitive with Democrats putting up a strong candidate in Carmona and Flake having suffered through a difficult primary. - TPM, 10/2/12
It's also essential that we win this particular Senate seat. Arizona is a red state who elected a bat shit governor that passed one of the harshest and most bigoted immigration laws. Republican Governor, Jan Brewer, has infuriated Arizona's large and growing Latino community and they are not only fighting back but also determined to elect the state's first Latino to the U.S. Senate. They are poised to make history this year and I am very thrilled that the DSCC wants to help them to do so.
Dr. Carmona, a former Surgeon General and war hero, is a terrific candidate who has been running an amazing campaign. Just check out this ad that not highlights his incredible and diverse resume but also hits Jeff Flake (R) hard for voting against veterans:
It's powerful ads like this one from the Carmona campaign that are keeping this race in the toss up category and helping him gain in the polls. Real Clear Politics moved this race in the Toss Up category over a week ago:

Now imagine the ads that will be coming out with the DSCC's help. Flake is shitting his pants right now and the Club Of Growth will be helping him out again to help him win this race. Lets defeat Ron Paul's buddy in the house and help Dr. Richard Carmona win this seat:
